Growing up, I never had an answer to when I was asked, “What are your hobbies?” Sure, I watched sports, played video games, and listened to music, but I never really did anything in particular that I considered a hobby.
That was, until I tried out hiking.
A desire to be outside mixed with a need for a reachable goal made hiking a perfect fit, especially in my native Westchester County. With so many wooded trails and local mountains, there was suddenly a whole new side of my home to explore. I quickly fell in love with the new views and discoveries that came along with trekking through the outdoors–as well as bringing my friends along.
The fact of the matter is, hiking sounds so much more daunting than it is. People hear the word at picture backpacking, sleeping in tents, and scaling cliff faces with a pair of picks and a harness, but when in reality there are trails of varying difficulties that make it an activity everyone can enjoy. And so, I’m taking you all along with me on some of my favorite journeys.
This blog is not a series of comprehensive trailguides–There are plenty of those already online that do the job much better than I could. Rather, I’ll be sharing the adventures I’ve had: The friends and family along side me, the wrong turns taken, the never-ending fight with Mother Nature, the laughs, and most importantly, the sights and sounds. While nothing can replicate being on a trail or mountain in person, I hope that my writing and photography can inspire you to follow in my footsteps, or better yet, starting out on a trail of your own.
While I am by no means an expert hiker (whatever that possibly means), I am always happy to provide any feedback, suggestions, or attempt to answer questions. Feel free to leave a comment or message me on my Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and I’ll be sure to help you out to the best of my abilities.
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the views! Remember–They’re always better from the top.
